If the vort maxes carry a more easterly component, this would aim the convection more towards the Cape Fear region. From here, more uncertainty creeps in, depending on where the best vorticity maxes are with the shortwave. These storms will gradually push towards the coast by the the evening hours (potentially as late as sunset or just after). Expecting scattered showers and storms to come in from the west, affecting parts of the SC Pee Dee region after 4pm EDT this afternoon. The surface front gradually dips southward, reaching the coastal waters by this afternoon, which is about the time that the shortwave energy gets here. It will take awhile to get here, allowing for fair weather for a good bit of the day. Today, this shortwave will deepen and strengthen a bit as it moves generally eastward. Meanwhile, a weak mid-level shortwave is positioned above this frontal boundary in northern Alabama, which is spawning showers and storms, per radar trends and IR bands on the GOES-16 satellite. The front cuts through the Deep South and into the Plains, finally tapering off in west Texas. ![]() Weak high pressure lingers over the Smokies, and will move to the ENE today towards the NC/VA border. Latest surface analysis shows a weak cold front starting to knock on the door of the northern portions of Marlboro, Robeson, and Bladen Counties. No changes coming down the track so far early this morning. This front may stall near the area on Tuesday, and gradually dissipate by mid- week with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible each day. Hot and humid weather is expected this weekend and will persist into early next week ahead of a cold front. An unsettled weather pattern will continue through Friday with showers and thunderstorms possible later in the day and evening. ![]()
